You get the impression at the start of this film that "Barry" (Donald Cook) and his wife "Muriel" (Irene Harvey) would have got along just fine, were it not for the frequent interventions of her mother (Doris Lloyd) who wants more for her daughter than her husband can afford. Fed up with the constant haranguing, this bank teller starts to help himself to some of his employers funds and jails beckons. Whilst incarcerated, he is divorced and she marries the wealthy industrialist "King" (Edwin Maxwell) who treats her as if she were merely another asset. "Barry" is released and shortly afterwards "King" is gunned down in his wife's bedroom - with her ex-husband hiding in her wardrobe - and well, you can guess what the constabulary think!
