**_Five youths inadvertently unleash Xipe Totec_** This is an Italian film, shot in Italy with a (mostly) Italian cast & crew; one glance at the credits verifies this. Yet the production company was American, which supplied a budget of $15,000 and not $300,000 as cited on IMDb. Everyone got paid except for the two writers, one of which was also the director, Samuele Breschi. So, this is a spare change indie, but it’s so proficiently made you wouldn’t know it. Like “Body Count” from 1986, it’s a wholly Italian production, yet the story takes place in America. As such, the characters’ interactions and general happenings come across more surreal than real since it’s an Italian interpretation of life in America. While a little stock footage of America is used in place of second unit work
