Open wide and still claustrophobic It is a bit strange how an open road can feel claustrophobic, but it does. It is a well acted movie, and while the plot is only there to allow for character exploration, and you never truly get to learn a whole lot about the actual setting, that's part of the idea. Resolutions are optional in such stories. The movie is by no means bad, but it is not one I will revisit and rewatch.

In the interest of full disclosure up front, I’ll do my best to assess this release without being overly unkind. To be honest, this debut feature from writer-director Alexander Ullom has almost assuredly earned itself a spot on my “Worst of 2026” list. Loosely based on the 1944 existentialist stage play *No Exit* by Jean-Paul Sartre, “It Ends” tells the story of four twenty-something friends (a term I use loosely) (Phinehas Yoon, Mitchell Cole, Akira Jackson, Noah Toth) who embark on a late-night drive but soon find themselves lost on a never-ending highway through a thickly forested woodland from which there’s no apparent escape (*i.e.*, “no exit”). I wouldn't classify this as a horror. There's a brief moment early on where you might be on the edge of your seat a bit, but then afterwards whatever danger these characters face becomes dulled and quickly it sinks into existential dread with the cast trying to rationalize an irrational setting. Are they dead? Is this limbo? And when it becomes clear they either don't know or don't want to face their reality, this movie then becomes a weird indie darling movie. Yeah, it's a bummer, but there's no real deaths and no guts or gore and the only screaming is cathartic ones meant to relieve stress and excess emotion. Nifty idea, but definitely don't go into this movie expecting to be bombarded with jump scares or unseen ghouls attacking them in the night. It's pretty darn tame in that regard.

Less than one star if I could. It Ends is the worst movie I've seen in a long time. It has absolutely no point. Almost the whole thing is just driving down one road, and there's no good dialogue to make up for it. Nothing builds, nothing pays off, and by the end I just wanted my time back. Horrible. Skip it. TBH: This is NOT a horror Genre. Nothing in this movie even touched on Horror.

There needs to be some kind of payoff with a movie like this, especially given the vacuous dialogue all the while. I won't repeat what every other reviewer has said here but I do agree with them all. Wankery - that is all this movie is.
