The Ren & Stimpy Show” is not a cartoon it’s a psychological endurance test disguised as animation, and I mean that as the highest possible praise Every episode feels like it was animated by caffeine, rage, and a deep hatred of the concept of “normal television.” Ren screams like a man possessed by demons, Stimpy is a walking biohazard of innocence, and somehow the show manages to be both grotesque and weirdly sincere at the same time The close-ups are crimes against art. The sound effects should be illegal. The jokes land like a brick to the face, then apologize by licking you. Modern animation is too clean, too polite, too afraid Ren & Stimpy looks you in the eyes, wipes its nose on your sleeve and asks if you want to see something really gross. Yes. Always yes.
