Isla, vuelo y horizonte

A feature-length documentary about Tenerife-born sculptor Mª Belén Morales (1928–2016). She began sculpting at an early age in a field dominated almost exclusively by men, learning to work with different materials in workshops and factories. She was one of the few women of her generation to embrace abstract sculpture. Released on the third anniversary of her death, the film celebrates her work and legacy. Morales’s charismatic personality takes viewers on a journey through nearly a century of life in the Canary Islands, revealing the archipelago beyond the stereotypes through the eyes of one of its most important artists. The film retraces her life and creative journey, following an artist who continued conceiving and shaping new works in her studio until her death in 2016, aged 88.
