In something of the spirit of "The Day the Earth Stood Still", an advanced alien race sends a robot called "Friendship" (Tilda Swinton) to chat to the people of the world. Unfortunately, their aim isn't so good so instead of arriving in Boston (USA) she arrives in Amman at the height of the early 1970s "Black September" troubles between the Kingdom of Jordan and the PLO. Luckily for her, she alights on veteran British journalist "Sullivan" (Bill Paterson) who learns of her identity and purpose and then shares conversation in his hotel room about just what humanity means while he tries to organise some exit papers for them both.
