**_Mysterious sorceries on the New England coast_** A college lass at a university in Massachusetts (Sandra Dee) falls for the charms of an outcast eccentric (Dean Stockwell), who lives with his grandfather at an eerie rural estate that has some… thing locked up in a secret upstairs room. Lovecraft novella from 1929, “The Dunwich Horror” (1970) is an American International flick in the vein of "The City of the Dead" (1960), "Die, Monster, Die" (1965) and "Curse of the Crimson Altar,” aka “The Crimson Cult” (1968). As far as a faithful Lovecraft-adaptation goes this is not far off the mark. It uses 'psychodelic'-looking effects of its era to hide the fact that there was no way they could visualize the scary things in this story without it looking hokey, and I think it was the best choice. Dean does such a good job acting in this movie, and the rest of the cast, including a doctor in old-man makeup so that a single flashback with the same actor is possible, as de-aging using CGI wasn't a thing back in 1970. This is not a bad movie, and as an adaptation it is really quite good.
