When a bed-ridden professor's literary assistant is found dead, clutching only a pinch-nez (spectacles) with a particularly wide bridge, "Insp. Hopkins" (Teddy Arundell) is perplexed. He really hasn't a clue, so seeks the advice of "Holmes" (Eille Norwood) and "Watson" (Hubert Willis). They set off to visit the home of our enigmatic academic (Cecil Morton York) - a man who seems suddenly to have quite an appetite, and slowly piece together a mystery that involves some alleged last words, four lamb cutlets and some bookshelves. To be honest, the clues here are really just as easy for us to work with as they are for our sleuths, but there is an enjoyable chemistry afoot between Norwood and both Willis and an Arundell whose role sees the policeman given more of the play.
